نظريه ذره حاصل تحقيقات فيلسوفان يونان باستان است و محققاني چون لوكيپوس و دموكريتوس آن را پرورده اند.اين نوشتار به تحليل يكي از انديشه هاي محوري عطّار؛ يعني تاّمل در ذرّات و اسرار آن و مقايسه ذّره با نظريّات فيلسوفان يونان باستان و دانشمندان پرداخته و سپس آن را با ايده فلسفي عرفاني عالم كبير در عالم صغير تحليل نموده است. اين مقاله در نظر دارد تا ضمن بازخواني ذره در شعر عطار، از منظر ارتباط آن با آموزه هاي عرفاني شاعر، به بررسي سير تكاملي آن تا دنياي علم بپردازد. نتيجه پژوهش نشان مي دهد كه عطار در آثارش علي رغم اين كه از حكمت يونان تبري مي جويد، اما در بسياري از موارد نظرياتش در باره ذره با آن ها اشتراك دارد. در نگاه اول تقابل ذره و خورشيد، به نحو بارزي مي تواند مقوله تغيير و دگرگوني را كه هدف اصلي ارشاد و تربيت عرفاني است، به سالكان نشان دهد و در مراحل بالاتر، آموزه هايي چون وجود جهان كبير در جهان صغير، وحدت وجود و فناء في الله را كه هدف غايي تعليمات عرفاني است، به مريدان ارايه نمايد. همچنين توصيفات مذكور حاوي آموزش هايي چون حركت، حيرت، معرفت و ... .ذره و ويژگي هاي آن دستمايه شاعر در توصيف منازل سلوك گرديده و زمينه را براي تسهيل آموزش تعاليم بلند عرفاني هموار نموده و ضمن تقويت تخيل شاعر، فرصت مناسبي را براي رمزپردازي و تمثيل سازي وي فراهم كرده است. ذره در شعر عطار رمز سالك راه و نماد عالم صغير است..
