A comparative study of two kinds of tretinoin creams on acme vulgaris

Acne vulgarism is a common skin disease that affects $5-100% of people at some times during their lives. Various drugs are used to treat it. Tretinoin is a comedolitic agent that usually used to treat acne. Physicians and people prefer to use imported drugs, despite high price of these ones. Therefore, this study was conducted to compare the therapeutic and side effects of Iranian tretinoin cream, with the imported ones (Ketrel). In a double blind clinical study, 69 patients with comedonal acne designated in to two groups. Group one (35 patients) received Iranian tretinoin cream and group two the imported one (Ketrel). After three months drug usage, the results compared with the ones before drug usage and with the results of other group 24% of patients in group one (Iranian tretinoin) and 61/5% in group two responded at high grade (60-100% improvement) (P<0.05). 46% of group one, experienced erythem, 30% dryness and 40% scalps. These figures for group two were 40%, 17% and 36% , respectively (P>0.05). Although the side effects in group one are not more then group two, however, the less therapeutic effect of Iranian cream causes more demand for imported drugs. Therefore, the quality of Iranian drugs should be increased.
