پس از افول قالب قصيده، سنت داستان‌گويي در تغزّل‌ها كه در بخش نخستين قصيده وجود داشت، تا حدّي در غزل حفظ شد و زمينه‌ي به وجود آمدن گونه‌ي خاصي از غزل با عنوان «غزل روايي» را فراهم آورد. برخي از غزل‌هاي روايي تنها معدودي از عناصر داستاني را دارا هستند و با پيرنگي ضعيف، كنش‌هايي اندك، و فقدان اوج و فرود داستاني، ساخت طرح پيدا مي‌كنند؛ اما برخي ديگر حاوي عناصر بيشتري هستند و در موارد استثنايي، به چارچوب قصه‌اي با كنش‌هاي پي‌درپي نزديك مي‌گردند. يكي از عناصر اصلي در غزل‌هاي روايي، شخصيت است. شخصيت‌ها در اين روايات، ويژگي‌هاي منحصر به فرد و دو‌گانه‌اي دارند. آنها از طرفي پذيراي الگوهاي سنّتي هستند و به صورت نوعي يا قراردادي ظاهر مي‌شوند، و از طرفي به ويژگي‌هاي شخصيت‌هاي داستان‌هاي كوتاه و مدرن قرن بيستمي نزديك مي‌گردند. در گونه‌ي دوم به نوع خاصي از شخصيت برمي‌خوريم كه مي‌توان آن را با شخصيت «قهرمان بايروني» در ادبيات انگليس يا «شخصيت آدم زيادي» در ادبيات روس، منطبق دانست. انفعال، بي عملي، و آرمان‌گرايي، از ويژگي‌هاي برجسته‌ي اين شخصيت به شمار مي‌روند. در اين مقاله، پس از مرور كلي شخصيت در غزل‌هاي روايي، به بررسي مختصات اين گونه‌ي خاص پرداخته مي‌شود.

After the decline of ode, lyrical storytelling tradition that existed in the first part of the ode, was maintaining in sonnet, and provided to create the groundwork of a special kind of sonnet entitled "narrative poem" . Some story elements have only a few sonnets validity and their plot is weak, they have slight actions, and the lack of rise and fall story, so they are making design, but others contain more elements and, in extreme cases, they are closed to the context of a story with repeated actions. One of the main elements in the narrative sonnets is character. The main characters in the narrative Ghazal generally are beloved and lovers; they have unique features and are double. They also are receptive to traditional patterns and appear as a form or contract; also they get close to the features of short and modern stories figures in twentieth-century. In the second kind we encounter a certain type of character that can be adapted with the character of" Baryonic hero" in English literature or "Superfluous m@n" in Russian literature. The salient features of this character are Passivity, inaction, and idealism. In this paper, after reviewing the validity of characters in the sonnets, the peculiarities of this particular species will be discussed.
