مسائل و مشكلات عديده اي مانند مسئله آلودگي هوا، ترافيك سنگين و اتلاف وقت در خيابان ها، افزايش فعاليت هاي اداري و تجاري شهروندان در شهرها، افزايش تعداد جمعيت و عدم تناسب امكانات و خدمات و غيره كه بدلايل مختلف در شهرها شكل گرفته است و همچنين مطالبه روز افزون شهروندان به ارائه خدمات مطلوب و با كيفيت، و از سوي شعار و سياست گذاري مديران شهري و دولت ها بر محوريت توسعه پايدار شهري، تصميم سازي و برنامه ريزي بر اساس تكنولوژي و تكنيك هاي روز دنيا در مديريت شهري را نه تنها اجتنابناپذير، بلكه ضروري ساخته است و ورود به دنياي شهر الكترونيك پاسخي منطقي و مناسب به اين نياز شهري مي باشد. يكي از پركاربردترين و محوري ترين نيازهاي خدماتي الكترونيكي شهري، خدمات بانكي بوده كه با الكترونيكي شدن فعاليت هاي آن سهم مهمي در توسعه پايدار شهري دارد. به همين منظور اين پژوهش در كلانشهر كرج مورد بررسي و پژوهش قرار گرفت. روش پژوهش توصيفي ـ تحليلي بوده و از روش مطالعات كتابخانه اي و پژوهش ميداني با استفاده از ابزار پرسشنامه انجام گرفته است. نتايج تحقيق كه از طريق سنجش فرضيات با استفاده از آزمون هاي T تك نمونه اي يا One sample T test و همچنين همبستگي اسپيرمن انجام شد نشان مي دهد كه بانكداري الكترونيك نقش پراهميتي در تحقق توسعه پايدار شهري داشته و در اين راستا شهروندان به عنوان ذي نفعان اصلي آن تاثير مستقيم در اين مقوله دارد و در واقع بدون مشاركت شهروندان امكان دستيابي به اهداف مورد نظر ميسر نيست.
