This study was conducted to evaluate callus induction and plant regeneration from anthers of some Iranian rice cultivars (Sadri, Rashti, Salari, Mohammadi-chapar-sar, Ghasrod-dashti, IR-28 and Amol-3) and some of their F1 hybrids (Rashti x IR-28, Sadri * Amol-3, IR-28 * Salari, IR-28 * Ghasrod-dashti, Mohammadi-chaper-sar * Amol-3). This study was carried out at plant laboratory of Amol Rice Research Station, in 2000. In this study 6 callous induction medium (N6, Fj, Fj1, Fj4, L8 and GI), and 3 regeneration medium (SK11, M5 and M7), was used. Anthre culture was initiated for all cultivars and F1 rice plants. The results showed that Rashti had the highest callus induction (23.38%) and Amol-3 and IR-28 had the lowest callus induction. Genotype x medium effects were significant (p < 0.05), N6, Fj 1 and G 1 media had the highest callus induction, respectively. Translating the callus on the surface of regeneration medium produced high percentage of shoot and root regeneration. The maximum plant regeneration percentage was obtained in M5 regeneration medium.
