The effects of temperature and air direction on the head rice yield in bed dryer

In the rural areas of northern parts of Iran, rice is considered as a major agricultural product. Therefore, the higher farmersʹ income is directly related to the better quality and also higher head rice yield (HRY), which is normally effected by drying method of paddy. In order to investigate the temperature and air flow direction (AFD) effects on the rice crackness (Khazar variety) after paddy drying in a bed dryer, a factorial experiment in a completely randomized block design was carried out. The study comprised 24 treatments with air flow direction in 2 levels (convectional direction and reserved air flow direction) and 4 levels of air temperature (35, 45, 55 and 65°C) with three replications. The results indicated that HRY was increased by 3% with changing AFD and temperatures beyond 35°C caused significant (P<0.01) decreased in HRY.
