The Impact of Geographical Factors on the Formation and Etymology of Rasht

بررسي جغرافياي تاريخي شهرها، چه به معناي تأثير جغرافيا بر حوادث تاريخي و چه به معناي بررسي نام‌گذاري آنها، در زمرۀ پژوهش‌هاي تاريخي است كه به مورخ كمك مي‌كند با استفاده از اين روش، افزون بر تحليل داده‌هاي تاريخي و ارائه اطلاعات جديد، صحت و سقم برخي ديدگاه‌ها و تحقيقات مشهور را بررسي كند. در تحقيقات جديد دربارۀ تاريخ شكل‌گيري و نام‌گذاري شهر رشت، اختلاف نظر وجود دارد. به باور برخي، قدمت اين شهر به آغاز دورۀ صفوي مي‌رسد و بر اين اساس، واژۀ «رشت» را ماده‏تاريخ تأسيس آن مي‌دانند. در اين نوشتار، ابتدا با استناد به منابع تاريخي و جغرافيايي، چگونگي تأسيس و شكل‌گيري شهر رشت مورد بررسي قرار مي‏گيرد و مشخص مي‏شود كه برخلاف ديدگاه رايج و مشهور، رشت از آبادي‌هاي كهن گيلان بوده و‌ دست‌كم از قرن چهارم هجري وجود داشته است. سپس با بهره‌گيري از زبان‌شناسي، ديدگاه‌هاي گوناگون مورخان، جغرافي‌دانان و لغت‌نامه‌نويسان دربارۀ واژه رشت، مورد بررسي قرار مي‏گيرد و از ميان ديدگاه‌هاي مطرح شده درباره وجه تسميه اين واژه، مشخص مي‏شود جاينامۀ رشت، برگرفته از موقعيت جغرافيايي آن بوده و ماده‌تاريخ پنداشتن آن اشتباه است.

In this article, firstly, based on historical and geographical sources, the way of establishment and formation of the city of Rasht was investigated and it was found that contrary to the popular view, Rasht was an ancient villages of Gilan, and at least since the fourth century AH was existed. Then, using linguistics, various views of historians, geographers and dictionaries about the word Rasht were examined, and from among the views expressed on the meaning of this term, it was determined that the dynamics of Rasht was based on its geographic location, and it is incorrect to consider the date.
