از دستاوردهاي مهم امنيتي انقلاب اسلامي ايران در منطقه خاورميانه، تقويت محور مقاومت اسلامي و بخصوص تحكيم پيوند شيعيان در منطقه­ خاورميانه است. قدرت گيري شيعيان در عراق، رشد حزب الله در لبنان و گسترش مبارزات شيعيان بحرين، در پيوند با ايران سبب نگراني امنيتي پادشاهي سعودي شده است؛ چرا كه بخش عمده­اي از جمعيت مناطق شرقي عربستان كه عمده ­ترين ذخاير نفتي اين كشور در آنجا قرار دارد را شيعيان تشكيل داده اند كه عربستان در برابر ايدئولوژي جمهوري اسلامي ايران نفوذ پذير و آسيب پذير ساخته است. فارغ از اين چشم انداز منطقه اي اين مقاله بر كشمكش ايران و عربستان در حوزه يمن متمركز است. در اين راستا پرسش اين مقاله اين است كه برجسته ترين هدف عربستان سعودي از حمله نظامي به يمن چيست؟ در پاسخ اين فرضيه مطرح است كه عربستان سعودي با هدف موازنه سازي در مناسبات قدرت منطقه اي و نيز تضعيف محور مقاومت، يمن را مورد تهاجم نظامي قرار داده است.
