امروزه بحث از حفاظت محيط زيست و نيز نحوه جلوگيري آلاينده هاي آن، يكي از مباحث مهم جهاني محسوب مي شود به‌طوري كه در برخي مـوارد، عدم نگهداري درست و يا عدم رعايت استاندارد هاي حـفاظت از محيط زيست در يك كـشور مي‌تواند سلامت كل جهان را مورد تهديد قرار دهد؛ تهاجمي كه توسط برخي ازكشورها و انسان ها نسبت به محيط زيست صورت مي گيرد، نگران كننده است. هدف اين مقاله بررسي اهميت محيط زيست از نقطه نظر اسلام مي باشد. روش پژوهشي براساس هدف از نوع كاربردي و بر اساس ماهيت از نوع توصيفي است؛ و از يافته هاي پژوهش مي توان به تعريف لغوي و اصطلاحي محيط زيست و ذكر انواع و اقسام آن به اعتبار شرايط محيطي كه شامل محيط زيست طبيعي و محيط زيست مصنوعي يا (انسان ساخت) و نيز محيط زيست اجتماعي اشاره نمود. نگرش و ديدگاه اسلام را درباره آن با بيان بسياري از آيات و روايات ذكر نموده و اهتمام و اهميت فراوان اسلام به آن را در زمينه محيط زيست و از لحاظ كمي كه شامل آيات و روايات و احاديث ائمه اطهار است و در كل مقاله به طور مشروح به آن پرداخته شده است متذكر گرديد.
