Objective(s): Identifying the needs is an essential step in planning university development programs and plays an important role in promoting the quality of faculty members work life and the goals of university. The aim of this study was to assess and prioritize the needs of faculty members on the basis of Kano’s Model.
Methods: This is a descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional study that 94 faculty members of University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation in Iran participated in it in 2008. Data collection was performed by questionnaire designed by researcher and data was analyzed using the modified Kano Table, Satisfaction Coefficient and Dissatisfaction Coefficient.
Results: Results of this study show that 8 needs of faculty members are Attractive Needs, 9 needs of faculty members are One-Dimensional Needs and 10 needs of faculty members are Must-Be Needs. Also the opportunity to study in post graduate levels from Attractive Needs group have the most Satisfaction Coefficient (0.904) and job security from Must-Be Needs group have the most Dissatisfaction Coefficient
(-0.819) of faculty members.
Conclusion: Generally, every universityʹs success depends on its faculty memberʹs efforts as well as their job satisfaction. Identifying and responsiveness to the needs leading to job satisfaction could be useful in increasing faculty membersʹ job satisfaction and motivating them to perform their educational and research activities. Educational leaders and administers must ensure more job satisfaction and welfare for faculty members through Identifying the needs, defining appropriate goals and strategic planning.
