نقد ادبي از درس‌ ها و مباحث علمي و ضروري و كاربردي در رشته هاي ادبي است. درباره اين علم و اصول و مباني و نظريات و مكاتب مختلف آن در دهه هاي اخير كتاب هاي مناسبي به نگارش درآمده يا ترجمه و تأليف شده است. يكي از كتاب‌ هايي كه در سال 1390 با عنوان «اصول و طبقه بندي نقد ادبي» تأليف شده به كوشش دكتر محمود فضيلت است كه در انتشارات زوار به چاپ اول رسيده است. نوشته حاضر ضمن معرفي اين كتاب، به نقد و بررسي شكلي و محتوايي كتاب مي‌ پردازد و نشان مي ‌دهد كه در كتاب حاضر علي رغم عنوان و نمونه‌ هاي احياناً مناسبي كه دارد به درستي، اخلاق پژوهش در نگارش و تأليف و ويرايش رعايت نشده، و مؤلف در ارجاع به منابع و نقل اقوال، همه جا امانت را رعايت نمي كند و التزامي بدان ندارد، از اين رو كتاب حاضر تا رسيدن به يك كتاب درسي مناسب كه درسنامه يا الگويي در نقد ادبي گردد راه درازي در پيش دارد، و محتاج بازنگري و بازنگاري اساسي است.
