ما در الگوي غربي با يك مفهوم شناخته ­شده از تقابلهاي دوگانه روبرو هستيم كه در آن مثلا خوب در برابر بد يا سفيد در برابر سياه قرار ميگيرد، اما عطار ديدگاه خاصي در اين زمينه دارد كه با سايرين متفاوت است. منحصربفرد بودن نگرش عطار به تقابلهاي دوگانه كه او را از ديگران ممتاز ميسازد، در بينش كمالگرا و متعالي او به انسان است كه محتاج ژرف­نگري و فراتر رفتن از سطح جهان مادّي است؛ به اين معنا كه دو سوي مثبت و منفي در تقابلهاي دوگانه، فراتر از خصوصيت ذاتيشان عمل ميكنند و اگرچه بظاهر در تضاد با يكديگر قرار دارند، اما در حقيقت و باطن، يكديگر را كمال ميبخشند. در اسرارنامه شاهد تبدّل عناصر مثبت و منفيِ دو سوي تقابل هستيم كه گاه مثبت به منفي يا منفي به مثبت تغيير مييابد و گاه ارتباط تقابلي دو عنصر مثبت و منفي به يكتايي و وحدت بدل ميشود. هدف ما در اين مقاله، تحليل نگرش خاص عطار به تقابلهاي دوگانه است تا انديشه­ هاي وحداني او درجهت اتحاد عناصر تبيين گردد و مصاديق تمايز وي از سايرين تحليل شود.
