ديري است درباره محل شهادت امام حسين (ع) مقتلي زبان زد ميان عوام شده كه به گودال يا «گودال قتلگاه» شهرت يافته است. چنان چه منابع تاريخي و حديثي متقدم و معتبر شهادت داده اند، شهادت امام حسين (ع) در مكاني غير از آنچه امروزه در لسان عموم جاي گرفته اتفاق افتاده است. بي گمان اعتقاد به چنين امري لوازماتي را به دنبال خواهد داشت و به نظر مي رسد يكي از اين لوازمات بُعد عاطفه است كه منابع و مقاتل متاخر آن را به اين عصر به ارمغان آورده اند. اختلاف تعابير، وجود لغات غريب در روايات و پرداختن به احاديث ضعيف را مي توان از جمله عواملي دانست كه سبب شده چنين تعبيري وارد حوزه عاشورا شود و به تبع، منشا اعتقادي بي پايه در ميان عوام گردد.

A place has long been known as Imam Hussein’s sacrifice pit among the common people. As the historical sources and a reliable tradition testify، Imam Hossein's martyrdom has happened in a place other than what is now commonly believed among ordinary people. Certainly، the belief in such a thing will have some consequences. One of them is the emotional aspect mentioned in the contemporary sources and biographies of the martyrs. The difference in interpretation، the existence of the strange words in the traditions and the engagement with the weak hadiths could be considered as the factors causing such an interpretation regarding the Ashura event and consequently could be the source of such a groundless belief among the common people.
