يكي از شايع‌ترين آلاينده‌هاي موجود در خاك، هيدروكربن‌هاي آروماتيك چند حلقه‌اي هستند. اين تركيبات به علت پراكنش محيطي گسترده، سرطان‌زايي و ايجاد اختلالات جنيني از اهميتي خاص برخوردارند. بر اساس مقايسه‌ي روش‌هاي مختلف، كاربرد روش‌هاي زيستي در بين گزينه‌هاي اصلاح خاك آلوده، مقرون به صرفه و داراي برتري است. علاوه‌بر انتخاب بهترين روش، بايد ساير عوامل اثرگذار را نيز مورد بررسي قرار داد تا بالاترين راندمان را در اثر استفاده از روش مورد نظر به‌دست آورد. علاوه بر اينكه كود مرغي داراي ميكروارگانيسم‌هاي موثر بر اصلاح زيستي است، عناصر غذايي مورد نياز را نيز مي‌تواند براي كشت مجدد خاك، فراهم كند. در اين مقاله با استناد به پژوهش‌هاي قبلي در مورد اصلاح زيستي هيدروكربن‌هاي حلقوي در طي سال‌هاي گذشته، اهميت خاك در زندگي همه‌ي موجودات و همچنين استفاده از توان بالاي باكتري‌هاي موجود در كود مرغي، روش تركيب اين كود با خاك آلوده به فنانترن و پيرن مورد بازبيني قرار گرفته است.
