Abstract :
In applications involving mixing in confined opposing jet configurations, it is essential to consider the effects of temperature-dependent fluid properties on mixing under conditions of large temperature differences. In this work, air and water were used as the working fluids to study the effects of temperature-dependent fluid properties on flow and mixing effectiveness for various temperature differences between the confined opposing jets of different geometries operated at different conditions. Simulation results show that the effects of temperature-dependent fluid properties on mixing under the temperature differences tested for air, ΔT = 20 °C, 40 °C and 60 °C, and for water, ΔT = 10 °C, 20 °C and 40 °C, are dependent strongly on the magnitude of the temperature differences between opposing jets, operating conditions and geometric configurations.
