Abstract :
Flow behavior of pure copper was studied as a function of friction, aspect ratio and specimen geometry. Ring compression tests were conducted to determine friction factor (m) during upsetting process. Specimens were deformed in compression between two flat platens to predict the metal flow at room temperature. Machine vision system was used to analyze the deformation of 4 × 4 mm square grid marked at mid plane of the specimen. The finite element analysis results were compared with the analytical results of various stresses from the experimental measurements of axial, circumferential strains and found to be in good agreement.
