Abstract
The conventional force method for determining design/admissible stresses (central link of any strength analysis) is replaced with a conceptually new energy-based method that takes a complex of the mqjor mechanical properties of structural materials (plasticity life, deformation and low-temperature hardening, and crack resistance) into account. As a result, the method ensures a differentiated and safe increase in the design stresses which is especially significant for plastic hardening and low-temperature steels and alloys. The applicability of the energy method to the strength analysis of various conventional and cryogenic structures was certified by testing welded pressure vessels subjected to static and cyclic loading at room and cryogenic temperatures.
