Abstract :
A simple and cost-effective method for the production of porous microstructures is proposed. The approach involves the use of glassy carbon microspheres and organic components to provide flexibility in the green state. Before firing, the structures remain totally flexible allowing easy manipulation. Carbon-based materials prepared following this route can be designed in any shape, any specific type of patterning, layer thickness, pore distribution, etc. After firing at low temperature, the structure becomes rigid and can be used to mould any inorganic material or directly as a catalyst-support, electrodes for fuel cells and batteries, etc.
