Abstract :
A new method for surface coating of an aluminum plate by diamond particles is developed. Underwater shock wave derived from the detonation of an explosive acts to accelerate an aluminum flyer plate to a desired velocity, the flyer plate collides with diamond particles and an aluminum base plate. Diamond particles are penetrated into aluminum. A diamond rich layer which of about 200 μm in depth was generated and the volume fraction of diamond was observed to gradually decrease from top to bottom. A simplified numerical simulation for observation of aluminum deformation at the collision was performed using Ls-Dyna software.
