Abstract :
In the present study, xNa2S + (100 − x)P2S5 35 ≤ x ≤ 60 glasses and glass ceramics have been prepared by melt quenching technique. The glasses and glass ceramics have been characterized using XRD, Raman and FT-IR spectroscopy. All glass samples show phase separation. For x = 60, two crystalline phases Na3PSO3 and Na4P2O7 are observed. The H2S generation and stability of Na2S–P2S5 glasses after exposure to air at different time intervals are investigated using gas chromatography. The amount of H2S generated from Na2S–P2S5 glasses exposed to air is found to be dependent on the glass compositions. Raman spectroscopy demonstrates that the 45Na2S–55P2S5 and 55Na2S–45P2S5 (mol %) glasses exhibit minor structural changes as compared to other compositions.
