Abstract :
Based on the theoretical model in Part I, a detailed discussion of the dynamical analysis of the snagging operation is introduced. To investigate the dynamical behavior of the machine, the equations of motion have been solved for varying the major influential machine parameters, such as machine stiffness K1y and damping factor C1y while keeping the time dependent cutting stiffness K2 as a constant. The simulated and experimented results are compared to ascertain the reliability of the model. Wheel vibration with rattling on the work is identified as either chaotic or quasi-periodic in a wide range of operating conditions. The qualitative and quantitative unpredictability of the wear pattern of the wheel is attributed to the high sensitivity to the initial conditions of the system dynamics, which is usually seen in a chaotic system.
