Comment on “Atom–surface interaction potential for 4He–NaCl(0 0 1) system: a diffused-pairwise near-absorption calculation” [Surface Science 440 (1999) 163]

In the commented paper an estimation of parameters for the atom–surface interaction potential for the system 4He–NaCl(0 0 1), is presented. In this comment, the validity of the arguments on which the estimation is founded is discussed. It is concluded that the arguments are incorrect. It is also shown that the estimated parameters yield a repulsive interaction potential, therefore, the bound states reported in the commented paper can not be obtained from a correct calculation.
