Abstract :
Long range chemical order imposes a paired step structure on vicinal surfaces of A3B Ll2 (001) and (110) alloys. A comparative study by He diffraction and scanning tunneling microscopy of Cu, Cu83Pd17, and Cu3Au vicinals allows one to emphasize the generality of this phenomenon for stepped alloy surfaces and to point out the differences between the two alloys.
