Abstract :
Synchrotron light has been used to investigate the Gd photoemission (PE) in the 200–500 eV photon energy range. We found that spectra of the Gd 4d multiplet depend on the excitation energy . The spectral intensity ‘flows’ between high binding energy structures of the multiplet. We relate this effect to energy losses, which are due to final state effects of the 4d PE. The polarization of the synchrotron light was found to influence the Gd 5p PE.
