Abstract :
Polycrystalline perovskite manganite Eu1−xSrxMnO3 ( x = 0.5 , 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8) were prepared by the standard solid-state reaction method. Magnetocaloric properties are studied systematically near the Curie temperature T C for all the samples. It is found that the as-prepared Eu0.5Sr0.5MnO3 sample exhibits a large magnetic entropy value of 0.31 J/kg K, and that of the annealed Eu0.5Sr0.5MnO3 sample is improved to be 3.03 J/kg K, with a large relative cooling power (RCP) of 87.2 J/kg. These results suggest that Eu0.5Sr0.5MnO3 may be a potential candidate as a working material for magnetic refrigeration below liquid nitrogen temperature.
