Abstract :
The photoionization of the van der Waals cluster ArHCl in a molecular beam has been investigated, using a synchrotron radiation light source and a photoionization mass spectrometer. The concentration of ArHCl is approximately given by the equationα(ArHCl)% = 1.79 × 10−8P01.5,where P0 is the stagnation pressure in Pa. The photoionization efficiency curve of ArHCl was obtained and the appearance potential of ArHCl+ was determined to be12.52 ± 0.03 eV. The bond dissociation energyD0 of ArHCl+ is deduced to be0.24 ± 0.04 eV. The theoretical calculation using Gaussian-94w indicates that ArHCl+ has a linear conformation like ArHCl. The auto-ionization mechanism of ArHCl and charge transfer-vibrational predissociation processes are discussed.
