Abstract :
The present study was conducted in order to explore the role of reactive oxygen species and heat shock protein in mediating the effects of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Patients of age 30-45 years with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome were screened and selected in the present study. The same age group persons without diseases were selected as the control group. Blood collected by vene puncture was centrifuged so as to obtain the blood serum and it was used to study the biochemical estimation of antioxidant enzymes, lipid peroxidation and heat shock protein. A significant decrease in the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase and glutathione peroxidase with a concomitant increase in the level of lipid peroxidation and hsp70 were observed in the serum of patients as compared with the control samples.
It was therefore concluded that elevation of heat shock protein and lipid peroxidation could be mediating the syndrome.
