Abstract
A heat transfer model has been established for a continuous wire casting (CWC) process with a tapered cuboid casting channel. A finite difference method was used for the numerical simulation. The effects of the processing and geometric parameters were analysed on solidification times and positions where final solidification takes place. These include the wire casting speed, the coolant temperature, the inlet temperature, the thermal conductivity of the mould material, and the relative dimensions of the casting channel. Simulation results show that the wire casting speed and the coolant temperature greatly affect the temperature distribution for a fixed casting channel geometry.
