Myeloperoxidase activity in chicken heterophils and adherent cells

Chicken heterophils are known to lack myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity. In this paper, evidence is presented to show that chicken heterophils and adherent cells contain a DNA sequence that is homologous to segment 10 of the human MPO gene; histochemical staining and microplate assays also show that heterophils and adherent cells contain MPO activity.
