Abstract :
This paper presents a design study to measure the electron beam energy in the storage ring of TLS (Taiwan Light Source) by laser Compton scattering. The system consists of a pulsed CO2 laser with a wavelength of 10.6 μm (0.117 eV), optical lenses, and a radiation detection system. A simulation program is developed to estimate the energy uncertainty from factors that would affect the scattered photon spectrum. The most significant factors are electron beam energy distribution, and the radiation detectorʹs resolution. Simulation results indicate the total relative energy uncertainty to be around 0.25%. In addition, optical parameters are also optimized from computer codes. Moreover, energy calibration of the radiation detector is performed around 3 MeV since the maximum scattered photon energy is approximately 3.02 MeV.
