Abstract :
An extended model of the ice–structure-interaction process in ice-induced vibrations has been derived from the Matlock-model. The model has been applied to full-scale simulations, including variations of ice and structure parameters. It turns out that some generalised assumptions – usually based on findings in small-scale experiments – cannot be transferred directly to large scales. In addition the present results show a dependency of the transition velocities from ductile to intermittent and intermittent to brittle behaviour both on ice and structure parameters. The same dependency holds for average ice forces resulting on the structure and for ice fracture frequencies.
