Abstract :
The effect of nuclear data and impurities on the evaluation of induced activity for SiCf/SiC composites prepared with Hi-Nicalon, Hi-Nicalon Type-S and Tyranno-SA fibers was examined. The first wall of SiCf/SiC composite for He gases cooled and water cooled blankets of fusion devices was assumed to be irradiated for 10 MW year/m2. The simulation calculation of induced activity was made based on FENDL/A2.0, JENDL3.2 and ENDF/B-VI. No large difference in the activity of 26Al produced in SiC between nuclear data sources was observed. The main impurities in the composites are Al, Fe and Ni contributing to the dose rate of SiCf/SiC composites. Although the SiCf(SA)/SiC contains fair amount of aluminum, the dose rate of all composites is expected to decrease by about seven orders of magnitude after cooling for several tens of years.
