Abstract :
The transformation process of Medan Pasar into an iconic heritage will enhance its attractiveness/ uniqueness as one of premier tourist attractions in Greater Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia. The purpose of the study was to examine the dimension of the visitors’ and retail traders’ needs during the process of transformation. In a simple word, do the existing facilities fulfil the needs of both segments, and do the stakeholders initiatives in tandem with thetransformation program of Medan Pasar into a heritage tourism area. The method of study comprised a questionnaire survey of 150 respondents; visitors and retail traders, field observation and interviews with DBKL. The study reveals that Medan Pasar and the surrounding areas have a unique characteristic that can be transformed and further, enhanced to become one of premier heritage tourist attractions. The study also found that the activities and development processes undertaken by the authorities are complimenting with the Greater Kuala Lumpur EPP7: Iconic Places Project, one of NKEA under the auspices of DBKL. The results also showed that with a high level of accesibility through a complete public transportation system and a full support of conservation, sustainability and improved services by local authorities, Medan Pasar will be transformed as one of the iconic heritage tourism inGreater Kuala Lumpur.
