Abstract :
This study was conducted to identify the knowledge students about the use of mind maps in learning the Malay language. This study also examined the differences in knowledge based on gender, as well as explain the appropriateness of the map thinking about learning Malay and Language. Respondents consisted of 300 students in Form 4 and 5 at a school in the district of Kota Tinggi, Johor. This study uses triangulation with the questionnaire used in this study to collect data as well as methods of interviews and document analysis Data were analyzed using Predictive Analytics Software ( PASW ) Statistics 18 as a tool for describing data . Descriptive statistics such as percentage, frequency, mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions and inferential statistics of t-test and ANOVA were used to answer the hypotheses. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the knowledge of the map based on the gender of the students thought when found significant value is greater than the significance level p.0.05. Interview data also showed that the use of thinking maps to stimulate student knowledge and interest in learning the Malay language and make the learning process more interesting. Thinking Maps can also be used as tools in the learning process based thinking skills . Therefore, the use of mind maps in students can be a measure of the effectiveness of thinking maps as a tool for thinking and learning of Malay Language for upper secondary student.
