Synthesis and Character ation of Novel (Co (II), Ni{11 , .cuM, Zn en , and Cd(ll)) Binuclear Complexes of N, N- his [(2, 4, 6-trihydroxy metbyl)] Benzidine

The Synthesis of a new Schiff base ligand N , N - bis(2,4,6- trihvdroxy methyl) benzidine [H6L] and its complexes with Con h , Ni( , , ), Cu( } , Zn( , l ) ,and Cd([1) are reported . The ligand was prepared by the reaction of 4,4-amino-biphenyl benzidine with 2A6- trihydroxyacetophenon monohydrate under reflux in methanol as solvent and a few drops of glacial acetic acid . Then the complexes were synthes by adding the corresponding metal salts to the solution of the ligand in methanol under reflux with 2:1 metal to ligand ratio. On the basis of molar conductance, I.R., UV-Vis. chloride content and atomic absorption the complexes may be formulated as [M2 (H4L) C12.2H20] [M=Co«Ni1Cu.Zn and Cd] . The data of these measurements suggest a tetrahedral geometry to Co{!l), Cu(1I) , Zn( i I ) 5and Cd( ! h complexes and a square planar to Ni( I I ).
