Abstract :
PURPOE: To ae the potential role of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in the pathogenei of proliferative vitreoretinopathy.
METHOD: We aayed MIF level in vitreou and paired erum ample of 74 conecutive patient with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (26 eye), rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (22 eye), and macular hole or idiopathic epiretinal membrane (control, 26 eye) by enzyme-linked immunoorbent aay.
REULT: Vitreou level of MIF were 51.33 ± 49.21 ng/ml (mean ± D) in proliferative vitreoretinopathy, 19.11 ± 16.13 ng/ml in rhegmatogenou retinal detachment, and 2.98 ± 2.55 ng/ml in the control. The vitreou level in eye with proliferative vitreoretinopathy were ignificantly higher than level in eye with rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (P = .0005) and in the control ubject (P< .0001). The vitreou level were ignificantly higher than the erum level in proliferative vitreoretinopathy (P< .0001) and rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (P = .0019), repectively.
CONCLUION: The reult ugget that MIF may be involved in the pathogenei of proliferative vitreoretinopathy
