Chronic expoure keratopathy complicating urgical correction of ptoi in patient with chronic progreive external ophthalmoplegia

PURPOE: To report chronic expoure keratopathy related to urgical ptoi correction in patient with chronic, progreive, external ophthalmoplegia. METHOD: Cae report of three patient with chronic expoure keratopathy following blepharoptoi urgery. REULT: We report three patient with chronic progreive external ophthalmoplegia with chronic corneal complication after urgical ptoi repair. All three gave a hitory of blepharoptoi and extraocular mucle dyfunction. Each preented with chronic corneal ulceration. All had hitorie uggetive of ophthalmoplegia. Treatment of corneal ulceration neceitated hopitalization and urgical intervention. CONCLUION: Patient with chronic, progreive, external ophthalmoplegia have little ability to properly protect the eye from expoure and are at rik for corneal damage. A thorough ophthalmic hitory and examination before ptoi urgery may prevent the corneal complication reulting from urgical intervention.
