The relation of ocioeconomic factor to the incidence of early age-related maculopathy: the Beaver Dam eye tudy

PURPOE: To invetigate the relationhip between ocioeconomic factor and the 5-year incidence of age-related maculopathy. METHOD: The Beaver Dam Eye tudy, a population-baed cohort tudy, examined 3681 adult (range, 43–86 year of age at baeline) living in Beaver Dam, Wiconin, at baeline and 5 year later. tandardized protocol for phyical examination, including adminitration of a quetionnaire that included quetion regarding income, education level, and tatu and type of employment, and fundu photography to determine age-related maculopathy, were performed. REULT: While controlling for age and ex, le education, and being in a ervice-related occupation compared with a white collar profeional occupation, wa aociated (P < .05) with the incidence of early age-related maculopathy. CONCLUION: Thee data how an aociation of education and occupation but not income with the incidence of early age-related maculopathy that appear independent of moking or vitamin upplement ue tatu.
