Endophthalmiti aociated with extruion of a ganciclovir implant

PURPOE: To report a cae of endophthalmiti with aociated cleral defect after intravitreal poitioning of a ganciclovir implant. METHOD: Interventional cae report. A 39-year-old woman developed acute endophthalmiti 1 month after inertion of a ganciclovir implant. The eye wa enucleated. REULT: Pathologic examination of the enucleated globe revealed an intracleral location of the implant uture tab and a vitreou abce. CONCLUION: Intraocular infection reulted from a cleral gap containing a foreign body (urgical implant). Appropriate urgical technique hould minimize the rik of ganciclovir implant extruion.
