  • Abstract
PURPOE: To determine the amount of pupillary contriction to four different concentration of pilocarpine in normal human ubject and to determine if pupillary contriction correlate with bioavailability of the intilled concentration. The amount of pupillary contriction to dilute pilocarpine i utilized a a diagnotic tet for Adie tonic pupil a ditinguihed from a normal pupil repone. DEIGN: Twenty healthy volunteer had automated binocular infrared pupillography in the dark after intillation of four different concentration of dilute pilocarpine. Ocular penetration of eye drop wa alo aeed uing 2% fluorecein odium a a tracer. METHOD: Propective intitutional double-maked tudy of both eye of twenty healthy volunteer, ten with brown iride, ten with blue iride, between the age of 20–40 year. REULT: A pilocarpine doe-dependent curve howed decreaed pupil ize within 15 minute, peaking at 30–60 minute. No difference wa noted between right and left eye, iri color, or corneal permeability. CONCLUION: Normal pupil contrict to dilute concentration of pilocarpine (0.25% or 0.125%), but contrict inignificantly to concentration of 0.0313% or 0.0625%. Pupil contriction with 0.0625% pilocarpine hould ditinguih an Adie pupil from normal. Thi confirm the utility of thi imple office diagnotic procedure.
