Late-onet laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) flap dehicence during retinal detachment urgery

PURPOE: To report a cae of laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) flap dehicence during retinal detachment urgery 7 month after uneventful refractive urgery. DEIGN: Interventional cae report. METHOD: A 47-year-old man noticed a defect of the upper viual field in hi right eye 7 month after a LAIK procedure. The fundu howed rhegmatogenou retinal detachment, and a cleral buckling procedure wa performed. During the buckling procedure, the corneal flap became detached. REULT: At completion of the buckling procedure, the detached corneal flap wa carefully raied and the expoed corneal troma wa cleaned of any reidual epithelial cell or red blood cell with irrigation uing balanced alt olution. One day after the operation, the LAIK flap wa repoitioned, the cornea had cleared, and the retina wa reattached. CONCLUION: A LAIK increae in popularity, the complication we have reported may become more common. We ugget that a retinal detachment urgery hould be performed with careful avoidance of corneal trauma even if a long time ha paed ince the LAIK procedure.
