Recurrence of retinoblatoma 12 year after brachytherapy

PURPOE: To report a cae of retinoblatoma that recurred 12 year after brachytherapy. DEIGN: Interventional cae report. METHOD: A 2-month-old boy preented in December 1983 with bilateral retinoblatoma and wa treated with bilateral 198Au plaque radiotherapy, photocoagulation, and cryotherapy. He maintained a viual acuity of 20/200 in both eye. In December 1995, he had a udden decreae of viion in the right eye and vitreou hemorrhage with fluffy opacification. REULT: In January 1996, cytopathologic examination of large keratic precipitate in the right eye demontrated cell conitant with retinoblatoma. The right eye wa enucleated and diffue retinoblatoma wa noted hitopathologically. ytemic chemotherapy wa given, and there ha been no local recurrence or extraocular metatai for 5 year. CONCLUION: Thi cae emphaize that long-term follow-up i eential for managing retinoblatoma after eye-preerving conervative therapy
