Abstract :
Purpoe
To review our experience with plamin-aited vitrectomy urgery for the treatment of pediatric macular hole.
Deign
Retropective, interventional cae erie.
Method
Thirteen pediatric patient aged one to 15 year with a traumatic macular hole underwent urgical repair. All patient underwent urgery between February 1997 and March 2005 with autologou plamin enzyme-aited vitrectomy. After induction of poterior vitreou detachment (PVD), vitrectomy with membrane peeling and ga or ilicone oil injection were performed followed by prone poitioning for even day. Main outcome meaure included anatomic cloure rate, viual outcome, and ocular complication.
Reult
The macular hole wa cloed uccefully in 12 (92%) of 13 cae. Of the 12 patient for whom viion could be meaured, 11 patient (92%) had viual acuity improvement of 2 or more line and ix patient (50%) achieved viion of 20/50 or better; all of the patient achieved viion better than 20/200. The viual improvement wa tatitically ignificant (P = .005, Wilcoxon igned-rank tet). urgical complication included cataract formation in one patient and retinal detachment in one patient.
Concluion
Autologou plamin enzyme may be a helpful adjunct when performing vitrectomy for traumatic macular hole.
