Photomediated asymmetric synthesis of (–)-cuparene

Generation of a benzylic quaternary stereocentre via the photomediated cyclisation of a chiral -(aminobutyl)styrene followed by a microwaveassisted Cope elimination has led to a total synthesis of the sesquiterpene (–)-cuparene.
