Interfacial sensing: surface assembled molecular receptors

The controlled surface assembly of biological or appropriately designed synthetic host systems on optically or electrochemicallyactive surfaces has advanced considerably during the past decade. Recent activities, from the authors laboratory and elsewhere, and possible future directions are discussed herein.
