Abstract :
To study the temperature control in aircraft cabins a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program is coupled to a controller model in a time-accurate way. In the present paper two common coupling algorithms are considered. Stability and accuracy of these algorithms have been analysed a priori by replacing the CFD program by an analytical model based on heat conservation. Numerical experiments corroborate that this simple analysis is suitable to predict the time-step sizes that are required for stability and accuracy. For both coupling schemes the time-step restrictions imposed by accuracy requirements are shown to be dominant.
