This study is a preliminary characterization of 27 accessions of cultivated peach
distributed in different zones ofLebanon (Bekaa, North and Mount Lebanon) at an elevation
between 700 and 1350 m. Each accession was described using 10 traits related to flowering
dates, maturity dates and morphological characteristics of leaves and fruits. Principal
Component Analysis revealed that flowering dates, maturity dates, fruit type and flesh color
had a significant contribution to the total variation. The DNA analysis was performed with 16
peach microsatellites (SSR) markers. All of them revealed polymorphism with an average of
4.5 alleles per primer and a discrimination power higher than 0.71.
