The Effect of Language Lab on Improving the Students Comprehensive Listening

The present study is devoted to investigate the effect of language lab existed in all English departments, Iraqi Colleges on improving the listening skill. The study is accomplished on forty students, second year, English department, Al-Yarmouk University College as a sample.The study is experimental and aims at finding the effect of language lab which is used as an audio aid on improving the students’ listening skill turning on mastering English phonology. The sample is divided into two groups: experimental and control. The two groups utilized from the same educational environment except for the lab which is exclusively used by the experimental group.The experiment has lasted for three weeks, two lab hours a week (namely six experimental hours) during the academic year 2017-2018.The study hypothesized that there is no significant difference between the two groups in the teaching-learning phonology. The test was the instrument of the study. A Pre-test and post-test were conducted to find the difference in the student s achievement. The result of the tests revealed the positive effect of the lab using on improving the students listening skill.Due to the obtained result, the study presents different recommendations and suggestions for further studies.
