Cadmium selenide nanoparticles were synthesized, using thiophenol. It has been found that the electronic absorption spectra as well as the particle sizes depend on the used capping agents. A large blue shift was observed in exitonic peaks when the concentration of thiophenol increased. X-ray diffraction patterns of our nanoparticles exhibit the CdSe characteristic peaks and the estimated nanocrystal sizes were found to be in agreement with TEM studies. FTIR spectrum of CdSe nanocrystals exhibits characterization peaks and indicates high purity of the particles
