The ever-increasing development of technology, greater safety, lower transport costs, lower energy consumption and, consequently, less environmental damage, have increased the use of railway transport systems in developing countries. Due to the high consumption of electricity by subway trains, returning of energy derived from dynamic braking to the network is one of the effective methods that has been considered today. Regenerative braking produces energy for railway transportation by converting kinetic energy into electric energy. In this paper we have proposed a new approach to improve the energy efficiency of railway transportation. In order to increase the total regenerative braking energy in a blended braking mode with both electric and mechanical braking forces, we have applied a linear controller by using a simulation in MATLAB software. To control the speed of three- phase electric motors, V/F control method have been used. Due to slow response time for this method of speed control, we used a closed-loop control method of linear regression. By using this method, between %40 and %50 of the primary energy can be returned to the system. The designed method is very attractive for applications in energy saving systems due to low lost / high efficiency and also environmental protection approaches
